[Samba] Use of coding system/client code page prevents logins
Samba version: 2.28 Server O/S: Solaris 2.6 Client O/S: Windows NT (Japanese) Contents of smb.conf (some names and IP changed but otherwise as is): # Global parameters [global] # client code page = 932 # coding system = euc workgroup = OURWG remote announce = 172.16.22.255/OURWG security = server password server = ourpdc username map = /usr/local/samba/lib/username.txt username level = 2 log file = /usr/local/samba/var/log.%I max log size = 500 load printers = No preferred master = Yes local master = No mangled names = No As written, we care able to log in to our server witout problems. However, if we place the client code page = 932 and coding system = euc into the file (currently commented out) any connections attempted cause a username/password prompt on the Client PC. Log file for the client contains the following: [2003/03/18 14:28:08, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:pdb_getsampwnam(1369) unable to open passdb database. [2003/03/18 14:29:04, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:pdb_getsampwnam(1369) unable to open passdb database. [2003/03/18 14:29:04, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:pdb_getsampwnam(1369) unable to open passdb database. [2003/03/18 14:29:27, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:pdb_getsampwnam(1369) unable to open passdb database. [2003/03/18 14:29:27, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:pdb_getsampwnam(1369) unable to open passdb database. Again, this ONLY appears if we make use of the client code page and coding system parameters. Without these, parameters, however, all the EUC encoded filenames we have appears scrambled. Anyone have any idea what might be going wrong here? --- Commerz Securities (Japan) Company Limited Information Technology Department Chuck Douglas Sun Certified System Adminstrator +81 3 5293-9097 (dl) +81 3 5293-9099 (fax) *********************************************************************** This communication is confidential and is intended only for the person to whom it is addressed.
