Hi! Hope this is the right way to post messages to samba mailing list; apologies if not; am trying for the first time. I recently installed Samba2.2.7. It is holding roaming profiles of about 50 users. All clients are winXP machines. Yesterday, we received a few hundred files with strange character - HEX 95 in the file name. I saved those on my desktop and then logged off. Samba copied my profile back to the server in the process, obviously including those files. However, in doing that, Samba replaced that strange character with 0x007 . Now when I login back to any client, and while my profile is being copied over, WinXP does not accept file-names with that character (007). The operation fails, and it logs me with a local profile. Now, how do I make my Samba server smart enough not to change the characters this way ? Is this a characterset problem ? Few other details which might help: -all clients use code-page 437. chcp gives 437 on all clients. -I tried "valid chars" parameter in smb.conf, but doesnt help. "valid chars = 0225:0225" -I tried using "client code page = 437" explicitly, to change it from default 850, but did not help. Is there a specific character-set I have to deal with for code-page 437 ? Please advise. Thanks in advance. -soham
