Hi, i've got an strange problem here which i can't resolve without any help. First of all some information on the network and the environment: We have 8 different locations, consisting of 11 lans (class-C subnets with netmask 255.255.255.0). These locations are connected via routers. At each location we have 1 to 3 AIX servers running samba. AIX is version 4.3.3 with ML 9 or 10. Samba is version 2.0.7. Windows NT Networking is working fine; each of the locations constitutes one NT 4 domain. The samba servers all belong to one Workgroup (called "workgroup"). The problem is: we see Samba servers which spawn a lot of smb processes. The count goes up to about 300 processes without one share being used. Applications supporters are not really happy with this count of smb processes because they see a significant performance degration. Btw: Clients can connect fine. I have found the following information in the logfiles: 2003/01/22 17:32:25, 2] smbd/reply.c:reply_special(97) netbios connect: name1=D0390021 name2=K4080140 [2003/01/22 17:32:25, 2] smbd/server.c:main(746) Changed root to / [2003/01/22 17:32:25, 3] smbd/oplock.c:open_oplock_ipc(86) open_oplock_ipc: opening loopback UDP socket. I am especially wondering about the the open_oplock ipc: pid = 96100, global_oplock_port = 3671 line. I have situations where this messages occurs every 2-3 second. If it ist of any help i can post smb.conf as well. Can anybody shade a light on this ? best regards Guenther -- Guenther Bergmann, Am Kreuzacker 10, 63150 Heusenstamm, Germany Guenther_Bergmann@gbergmann.de http://www.gbergmann.de
