I have samba 2.2.1 Redhat 7.2 The samba is set up as Share level access. It keeps asking for the username and password when i try to connect with win98 and win2k clients. I cannot connect. here is smb.conf: # Samba config file created using SWAT # from 0.0.0.0 (0.0.0.0) # Date: 2003/01/20 03:45:14 # Global parameters [global] workgroup = GROUP1 netbios name = PLANROOM.TV netbios aliases = planroom server string = Samba Server interfaces = 192.168.9.82/255.255.255.0 security = SHARE encrypt passwords = Yes update encrypted = Yes null passwords = Yes log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log max log size = 0 socket options = SO_KEEPALIVE SO_BROADCAST TCP_NODELAY SO_SNDBUF=8192 SO_RCVBUF=8192 local master = No domain master = False dns proxy = No default service = public remote announce = 192.168.9.120/group1 192.168.9.3/group1 guest account = nobody, administrator printing = lprng [homes] comment = Home Directories valid users = %S read only = No create mask = 0664 directory mask = 0775 browseable = No [printers] comment = All Printers path = /var/spool/samba printable = Yes browseable = No [public] path = /home/public valid users = administrator, marcusb admin users = administrator, marcusb write list = administrator, marcusb read only = No guest ok = Yes [win] path = /mnt/win guest account = nobody, administrator, marcusb, root valid users = administrator,,root,,marcusb,@root,,@marcusb,,@administrator read only = No guest ok = Yes
Do you have usernames and passwords set up in samba that are IDENTICAL to the usernames and passwords that you use to login to your windows machines? This is necessary.
