samba - Nov 2002 - No share-names longer than 12 characters...

Hi all,

I have the problem that I cannot see Windows shares
with names longer than 12 characters. Since the dos-filename-format
8.3 sums up to 12 characters (including the dot) I assume that
it has something to do with name mangling or filename conversion.
But I could not find a Samba option for hiding files longer than
"8.3"-length that I could switch off...

File name is not share name and its very diferent.
This tell you that computer and share names canot be longer that 12
characters.

Thank you for the information,
but is it possible to make at least the first 12 characters of a windows
share visible, as it works for Samba-shares ? And why is windows capable
to "see" shares with longer names ?
