samba - Oct 2002 - Samba 2.2.6-1 util_sock.c error

Continually occurs in logfile:

lib/util_sock.c:write_socket_data(499)
  write_socket_data: write failure. Error = Broken pipe

What's it mean and what do I need to do to stop it?  Possibly related - 
smbd daemon keeps dieing.
