[Samba] Re: Drive Mapping issue on W2K (Trey Nolen)
You're going about this in the wrong way. Review the following piece of man-page: logon drive (G) This parameter specifies the local path to which the home directory will be connected (see logon home) and is only used by NT Workstations. Note that this option is only useful if Samba is set up as a logon server. Default: logon drive = z: Example: logon drive = h: ...this happens by default on an NT-based workstation. You do not need, and in fact probably should not, mount a home directory in the logon scripts for your NT-based machines. Instead, set this paramater to whatever you like (apparently H:, as I did on my machine and as is shown in this example), and the drive will be mapped automatically on logon. I have used this method and it works just fine. ---- _ _ _ _ ___ _ _ _ |Y#| | | |\/| | \ |\ | | | Ryan Novosielski - Jr. UNIX Systems Admin |$&| |__| | | |__/ | \| _| | novosirj@umdnj.edu - 973/972.0922 (2-0922) \__/ Univ. of Med. and Dent. | IST/ACS - New Jersey Medical School - C630> Message: 7 > From: Tim Boring <tboring@insight.rr.com> > To: samba@lists.samba.org > Date: 10 Aug 2002 20:59:47 -0400 > Subject: [Samba] Drive Mapping issue on W2K > > I've recently added a w2k client to our company domain and noticed that > when a user logs into the w2k client, samba is mapping the user's home > directory twice, once to h:\ (which is how I've set up the logon > script), and a second time as z:\ (which is not designated at all in the > logon script). > > The weird thing is that the same user can then log on from a win98 > client and the user's home directory is mapped only once, as it should > be. > > Has anyone else experienced this behavior? > > Thanks, > Tim
Wish I'd known about that parameter before I converted a BUNCH of workstation programs from Z: to Y: :-( Thanks, though, I'm sure it will come in handy later!
