We have been fixing several performance related bugs with Samba running
on Solaris over the past few 2.2.x Samba releases. Firstly, I would
recommend moving to 2.2.5, as this is the latest current release.
Having said that we are aware of a Solaris fcntl bug which causes
slowdown with Samba on Solaris when large numbers of users are
connecting simultaneously. This may also affect us with large numbers
of concurrent users (on Solaris only) also.
We have made Sun aware of this and there is an escalation in progress
I believe. More information as we get it. This may or may not be the
problem that is affecting you here, I would definately recommend
starting with 2.2.5 and doing tests from there.
Hope this helps,
Jeremy Allison,
Samba Team.
