Here is what I am trying to accomplish: I want to create a share that will force users to a ID and group, allow certain users write privileges to certain directories only and others read only. I have set this up and every time I create a file the owner is set to root and the group is correct. Any help would be great, the following is what I have in the smb.conf file: [migrate] path = /lanman/Users/content_migration valid users = eoz egh bfs txh admin users = eoz egh bfs txh read list = eoz egh bfs txh write list = eoz egh bfs txh force user = migrate force group = segrp create mask = 0775 directory mask = 0775 browseable = No Ed Zoeller ShopTalk 640 N. Ed, Since all your "valid users" are also "admin users" and admin users processes run as root on the server you end up with files owned by root. Why it doesn't consult "force user", I'm not user. Maybe 'cause you're already root? Hi I have a little problem with samba users and changing owner files on samba server. [filmy] path = /pub/filmy create mode = 644 force create mode = 644 directory mask = 755 force directory mode = 755 readonly = no dos filemode = yes valid users = leo sarak force user = filmy force group = zasoby this is part of my smb.conf (samba ver 2.2.1) I want that any files and dirs on samba server which were moved/copied by leo and sarak (me ;)) change ownership to filmy:zasoby. Its working only for coping now. When i move any file (using windows) on samba server, ownership is as it was before. Can anybody advise me something? Sorry of my poor english Thx | [ Grzegorz Saracki ] aka Sarak | |sarak@gisz.net.pl sarak9@poczta.onet.pl| |www.gisz.net.pl (wkrotce tez /~sarak ;)|
Hello, I am using a samba share to upload files from my PC to an intranet server running apache on red hat 6.2. However, i always want the user/owner of the file to be apache and the group to be webdev. BUt even though I set these options in samba when I create a file and upload to the intranet via the samba share for some reason the user/owner of the file is always root. Why?? The options i used were force user and force group. Has anyone any ideas? Or maybe there is a Linux command I can use to force the owner of file for certain directories? Please help - thanks Mr. Gerard O'Reilly Intranet Manager Siam Stars Ltd/ Thai-Belgium Industrial Co. Jerry, Yes I had the Admin useres set as well as the valid users. I had entered a number of usernames in both. Should this make a difference? I deleted the entries in admin users and then created a new file but the owner was still set to root.!?!? I still have the force user set to apache but it doesnt seem to work. I hope you can help some more... thanks Date: Mon, 30 Sep 2002 08:55:04 -0500 (CDT) From: Gerald Carter <jerry@samba.org> To: "Ssltbivdc.com" <stars@ssltbivdc.com> Cc: samba@lists.samba.org Subject: Re: [Samba] force user On Thu, 26 Sep 2002, Ssltbivdc.com wrote:> Hello, > I am using a samba share to upload files from my PC to an intranet server > running apache on red hat 6.2. > > However, i always want the user/owner of the file to be apache and thegroup> to be webdev.
