I'm new to Samba software. I just installed Samba on my Sun Sparcstation 20 running Solaris 2.5. I read the DIAGNOSIS.txt file, but in this case, it didn't helped me. When I tried to login in from the PC to the unix machine by typing "net use x: \\BIGSERVER\TMP", it prompted me for the password, so I typed in the unix password (I guess?), but an error message returned - "The account is not authorized to login from this station." Any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate??? Thanks, Bunty Vue Unix System Admin Trimble Navigation Sunnyvale, CA Work: 408.481.7222 email: bunty_vue@trimble.com

Any suggestions, I | would greatly appreciate??? If you're using security=share (the default), it's actually prompting for a password which it will try to log on to a unix account named "tmp" with. This is quite intentional: older clients didn't know about accounts! I'd try net use x: \\server\\my-account, after adding a [homes] section to the smb.conf. I just installed Samba version (Samba 1.9.17p5) on my Sun workstation running SunOS 4.1.4 operating system. I tested everything on the unix side and it seems to be working fine. The problem that I'm having is with the password. I'm getting an error message when I tried to login from my NT to my unix box. Below are the commands I used and error message that I received: c:\> net use x: \\slinky\bvue (I entered Return) The password is invalid for \\slinky\bvue. (This is the message from the console.) Type the password for \\slinky\bvue: (I entered my unix password) System error 1240 has occurred. (This is the message from the console.) The account is not authorized to login from this station. (This is the message from the console.) C:\> Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated? Also, the username and password on my NT box is exactly the same as the one on the unix.
