Rails - May 2012 - What are your thoughts about the social network builder gem SocialStream?

I recently stumbled upon this nice looking social gem 
http://social-stream.dit.upm.es/
After digging in the code it seems well written but fairly complicated.

Did anyone use it?
What were your thoughts?
