Rails - Aug 2008 - How to frame the regular expression for special characters

Hi,
     I am newbie to ruby ... how to frame the regular expression for
special character like ~,@,#,%,*,& etc... If user enter any one of these
character i should validate these type of character by manaually.please
any one help me
