Hey, I remember my friend Bryan told me about this new language- Ruby on Rails. I had a meeting with a friend of mine who would like me to set up a database for them. Sort of like a form she can fill out- with a companies name and website URL/logo, and then hit a submit button- and there will be a whole new page in a "directory" or sorts. Basically she wants me to make a website that she can edit new companies in a database- by using a form. She would also like a search bar on the main page that users can use to search for a company (that shes added) in the database. I figured I would have to learn some PHP for this, but is it possible with RoR? I''m clearly very new, and if it''s possible, I would buy books- read tuts on how to start coding this --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. yes, that''s perfect for RoR (and if you don''t know PHP already, learning RoR and building your app will take you much less time) -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. I have been 8 months in RoR and I recommended some client to move from PHP or Java to Ruby. And now Ruby on Rails in some of universities in my city are already used for their curriculum in Object Oriented Programming Class. You are not late to learn it, because Ruby on Rails is live. Reinhart, which Universities are offering ROR as part of the OOP classes? I''m interested as I work for a Uni and I''m trying to get our Computer Department to start teaching it, they are dragging their feet and showing them another University that is offering it would help my case alot. How would you suggest I start learning RoR? Is there a book I should pick up? For such a simple application you can probably get all you need from the first dozen chapters of "Agile Web Development with Rails" (Thomas/ Hannson/et al, Pragmatic Programmers). It''s in Practice class of OOP. But here you can see list of universties which are using RoR : http://weblog.rubyonrails.org/2007/9/28/uc-berkley-teaches-ruby-on-rails http://ipd.cti.depaul.edu/ror/Prog_ror.htm http://www.ics.heacademy.ac.uk/events/jicc11/scharlau.pdf in Indonesia, one of them is http://www.akakom.ac.id/ and more good luck, Reinhart http://teapoci.blogspot.com -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group.
