returning an array works fine for me:
def two_dimensional(size, val)
Array.new(size, Array.new(size, val))
end
>> two_dimensional(4,1)
=> [[1, 1, 1, 1], [1, 1, 1, 1], [1, 1, 1, 1], [1, 1, 1, 1]]
