Nice hype... but I''m not sure about the rockstar angle being applicable to computer programmers like us. ^_^ On Jan 9, 9:15 am, madisonrose <madison6...-Wuw85uim5zDR7s880joybQ@public.gmane.org> wrote:> ATTENTION ALL RUBY ROCKSTARS: > > We are an IT Infrastructure company working with a client of ours in > CAMBRIDGE, MA who is seeking an experienced Ruby on Rails Developer to > work on-site at their location. > > The company is seeking to hire this individual as soon as possible, so > please act quickly! > > If you or someone you may know is interested in this opportunity, > please contact Melissa at US Edge today. Job advertisements need to have less buzzwords and to be more varied. I''m sure there''s a great conspiracy going on where there''s this job ad template where people just paste in around about 5 words to make it look slightly different. Here''s what caught my eye 1. (BAD) Rockstar. I''m only good at guitar when it''s attached to a console. 2. (GOOD) Experienced Ruby on Rails Developer, gets the point out quickly. 3. (BAD) A GREAT opportunity to work with a *cutting edge * company who *embraces new technology* and makes a* significant contribution. *Buzzwords gather in this sentence like teen girls in a Justin Timberlake concert. Less buzzwords. This is the crap people who look for jobs read every day. The "new technology" you''re using is probably something we''ve already heard of... 2 years ago. 4. (GOOD) "Position: Ruby on Rails Developer". From this point onwards, the top half''s statements have been reiterated. Any details I would''ve found in the top half (and read if I had any interest in the job) are now repeated so I can read them again! 5. (BAD) "Company has written arguably the best", "arguably", "ARGUABLY"! Does this mean that it might not be the best? Also, it''s not named anywhere. Why should we believe you, a company that we''ve never heard of, about that your product is "arguably" the "best"? Link us to some websites, fax us some of your trophies and maybe we might start believing you. 6. (NEUTRAL) This is a long one: Must be revved up about web technologies *makes revving noise* understanding of ruby on rails and have at least one rails deployment. 2 years experience and one successful deployment. Shame I''m not in the US. Be capable of reading/writing complex SQL statements. SELECT * FROM `job_advertisements` WHERE `effort` = ''Awesome'' AND `readability` = ''Worthy'' I could get more complex, but most of the SQL stuff Rails does for you. Must have some experience with CSS, JavaScript and AJAX. body { font:12pt Arial; margin:0px; background:url(''images/background.jpg'') repeat-x #00ff00; } $(''email'').hide Ajax.Updater(''element'', ''/url'', { :asynchronous: true, <more crap goes here> }) Should love writing tests for your code (TDD anyone)? Love writing them, still twitch when I see one break. General all around intelligence IQ rated at a 154... by an internet IQ test. That must mean I''m smart, right? and experience in the financial industry I''m awesome with money. I can do the one thing many people have trouble with: save. THE BIG SHABANG: Is that anything like "#!"? An amazing opportunity to work in a rapidly expanding and exciting startup culture with relatively little structure and lots of opportunity/ responsibility. ARE YOU A RUBY ROCKSTAR? WELL GET READY TO ROCK!!!! I''m not a Rockstar, I''m a Rock God. Brian, I think you''re confusing us with either PHP or Java. Could you provide less of a generalisation so I can narrow it down to the precise one? I bloody wish! To get there''s going to cost me $3,500! Stupid large ocean coupled with profiteering flight-providing companies. I''m still considering it, however. It is a huge amount of money to spend on 4 days of Ruby. On Jan 10, 2008 2:15 PM, Brian Hogan <bphogan-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote:> LOL! You and I need to have a drink!
