A colleague of mine was having this problem. He was running Webrick on a windows platform. I recommend running lighttpd on a linux platform. channel5 wrote:> Hi > > I am trying rails for the first time and going through O''Reilly > tutorials. > > I have just got to the section where I do: > > >> rake migrate >> > > it failed so with the --trace option I get: > > [root@localhost photos]# rake migrate --trace > (in /home/dev/photos) > ** Invoke migrate (first_time) > ** Invoke db:migrate (first_time) > ** Invoke environment (first_time) > ** Execute environment > ** Execute db:migrate > rake aborted! > Mysql::Error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query: SELECT > version FROM schema_info > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/abstract_adapter.rb:120:in > `log'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/mysql_adapter.rb:184:in > `execute'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/mysql_adapter.rb:336:in > `select'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/mysql_adapter.rb:179:in > `select_one'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/migration.rb:307:in > `current_version'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/migration.rb:324:in > `current_version'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/migration.rb:388:in > `irrelevant_migration?'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/migration.rb:330:in > `migrate'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/migration.rb:328:in > `migrate'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/migration.rb:295:in > `up'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/migration.rb:286:in > `migrate'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rails-1.1.6/lib/tasks/databases.rake:4 > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/lib/rake.rb:387:in `execute'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/lib/rake.rb:387:in `execute'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/lib/rake.rb:357:in `invoke'' > /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/thread.rb:135:in `synchronize'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/lib/rake.rb:350:in `invoke'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/lib/rake.rb:364:in > `invoke_prerequisites'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/lib/rake.rb:999:in `each'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/lib/rake.rb:363:in > `invoke_prerequisites'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/lib/rake.rb:356:in `invoke'' > /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/thread.rb:135:in `synchronize'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/lib/rake.rb:350:in `invoke'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/lib/rake.rb:1906:in `run'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/lib/rake.rb:1906:in `run'' > /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.7.1/bin/rake:7 > /usr/bin/rake:18 > > Googling for the error doesn''t help me much, can anyone here shed any > light on it for me? > > thanks > Edd > > > > > >--~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. This issue has popped up a few times. I did a quick search at ruby-forum.com and this thread seems like it might be helpful to you. I think the last post is the solution: http://ruby-forum.com/topic/52057#24490 Good luck!
