Rails - Nov 2006 - acts_as_attachment - RMagick mandatory for non image files?

I would like to use acts_as_attachment but before I install and
migrate the db I thought I''d ask a quick question which does not seem
to be properly addressed in the docs (nor in the Rails Recipes book).
If I only want to do non-image files do I still need to install
RMagick?
