From RailsLiveCD.org I''m excited to release another version of the RailsLiveCD tonight. Version 0.2.1 of the LiveCD includes several enhancements and all the expected updates. Included in this release: * Rails 1.1.16 * RadRails 0.7.1 * jEdit * emacs * Subversion * MySQL 5 & MySQL Administrator * SQLite * PostgreSQL 8 * Firefox 1.5 with several web development extensions * Gems : ZenTest, Rake, Rails, OpenID, Mogrel, Capistrano * KDevelop, Kate * TightVNC This is a great release with nearly all the bells and whistles a Rails Developer needs. As always feedback is encouraged. Thank you to all the folks who suggested additions and enhancements from the first version. It is truly fun creating a tool that is used by so many people. Here is the information page about using a LiveCD based on PCLinuxOS. The really useful stuff is at the bottom of the page. You can use a USB drive to store your home folder and save your work between sessions. You can also use a disk image on a real hard drive or a partition on a real hard drive. If given the opportunity it is much easier to just use the installer icon on the desktop to install it permanently. The RailsLiveCD is a great addition to a virtual environment such as Qemu, VMWare and Parallels. I''ll upload a VMWare Player definition as soon as I can create one. Meanwhile, head over to http://www.easyvmx.com and make your own. Thanks for this livecd! I''m using it at school when I have not my home computer with Rails installed on it. Just all the tools I love on one disk :-) Any reason why it''s based on PClinux? Cause I''m a bit of a ''Buntu fan ;-) Keep up the good work! --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. Is that fairly easy to do , does the flash stick need to be formatted in anyway, or clear of any other filesystems ? It''s amazingly easy to maintain and upgrade and Texstar the maintainer does a fantastic job of keeping the entire distribution tight and stable. I''m glad you''re enjoying the LiveCD. That''s motivation for these long nights. And it might help my wife understand why she can''t check her email at home because our entire 2MB upstream is saturated :) Brian -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. This makes the LiveCD extremely portable. I use a USB thumb drive and VMWare at work and a USB thumb drive and Parallels Workstation for Mac at home. And all my code comes with me :) See the wiki at pclinuxos.com or the help links included on the desktop of the CD. You can also provide optional shipping of this product on a CD for $15 + shipping. I installed the VM player. When I invoke the VM player, it pops up a message saying it needs a bootable disk. How do I run the RailsLive CD in this case? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group.
