ASP.NET and .NET in general are turds. You can polish them as much as
you want but in the end all you have is a shiny turd.
Why do I say this? Well, working at night in RoR is productive and most
of all fun (now its starting to pay my bills too!). Working in ASP.NET
is frustrating, kludgy, and in some cases broken (Firefox/Safari support
is dodgy at best). There was a day when Microsoft really had some "good
enough" toolsets. I gotta think though they took a wrong turn with
.NET. I honestly don''t think Microsoft listens to their shrinking
developer community anymore -- really how many more data-bound controls
do we need? Who in the "real world" with only the most idealistic
situations can actually use these databound controls and drag-n-drop
their way to an app? I''ve been on Mac OS now for a while and
haven''t
looked back. I don''t even run bootcamp anymore. Vista the "me
too OS"
probably is not going to add a whole lot to the end user other than more
security issues and virus''s....and honestly RoR does run and setup a
lot
easier on *nix - especially for production level servers. I cannot trust
Windows, I cannot fathom how one process can nail 100% of the CPU and
starve every other process.
Folks, the revolution has started. Developers are moving out of
Windows. The jig is up. The tables have turned. The Beast of Redmond
has faltered and fallen. He''s too distracted with his soon to fail
Zune
and Xbox "lost 360 million again" to notice he has been following
others
for years now. Meanwhile, Ubuntu, Apple, Google, Yahoo, etc. are taking
whats left of what could have been Microsoft''s new empire.
Thank you DHH and the rest of the Rails team for making web programming
fun again.
