Rails - Jul 2006 - ActiveRecords::Calculations trouble

I have my Model<ActiveRecord::Base  ,

  but whenever I try something like

  Model.calculate() or Model.maximum ...

I get NoMethodErrors.

Why can I use any of the other ActiveRecord methods, but none from 
Calculations
and what do I do to remedy this?
