Well i want to make a photography community site on the lines of www.gfxartist.com , www.terminus1525.ca, www.phirebrush.com Where the community votes for every subbmission from a artist and can comment (like a forum).. Now gfxartist has used probably SMARTY,php, and their own CMS. terminus used Drupal,Gallery 2.Some one tells me that this combo is heavy on resources and slows down sites. [A] I need AJAX. SO finally it was decided that i use CMSmadesimple + G2 + SMARTY + xajax. OR [B] Joomla + Community Builder + G2 bridge + dojo(for ajax). [C] But then i discovered Ruby on rails. And m amazed by what i see. 1. Now is there a CMS for ruby on rails, which one''s the best choice for my app ? 2.Can G2 be intergrated with Ruby on rails(RoR).Is there any other photo managment for RoR as good as G2. 3.Is SMART needed at all... 4.any more advantages U would like to suggest.. Regards rushi pixelrouge@gmail.com -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

I''m aware of only Radiant [http://radiantcms.org/]. I haven''t used it. If you''re anywhere near the Chicago area this Thursday, John Long, the creator of Radiant, will be giving a talk [http://chirb.org/ uger/event/show/3] about it at chirb. Craig
RadiantCMS is awesome. Especially if you''re new to rails, you wouldn''t find a code written better than Radiant. -Pratik On 7/4/06, Craig Demyanovich <demmer12@fastmail.us> wrote:> I''m aware of only Radiant [http://radiantcms.org/]. Thnx guys i will check out RadiantCMS.. 1.But did U have a look at www.gfxartist.com , www.terminus1525.ca, www.phirebrush.com Well i want to make a photography community site on the lines of these sites. Is that possible by Radiant CMS.(It should not slow the side down like Drupal does with G2) 2.With Ruby on rails i suppose AJAX support is built in. But i m looking for a photo managment software like Gallery 2.(G2) (see this for more info http://gallery.menalto.com/ ) Can G2 be intergrated with (RoR). 3.Also i guess i have read somewhere that there is no need for something like SMARTY.Cause RoR does it automatically. (see this for more info http://smarty.php.net/rightforme.php ) .it is a template engine OR "Template/Presentation Framework" of sorts. Guys i m looking for answers to all the 3 question. Whoever can contribute on any of these pls help me.... Thnx again for ur earlier responses regards Dakoo Where the community votes for every subbmission from a artist and can comment (like a forum).. You''d have to write a fair amount of code to get the result you want. My recommendation would be to just go with one of the non-Ruby options you mentioned earlier. It''s not going to be worth it unless you''re planning on you know, actually learning Ruby/Rails first. Cheers, Bob Aman -- AIM: sporkmonger Jabber: sporkmonger@jabber.org
There really aren''t that many ready made solutions in Rails at this moment. The biggest part of the rails user group are people who enjoy doing things for themselves. For the CMS part itself you have been pointed to Radiant CMS. I personally prefer the more lightwight CMS plugin Comatose from mattmccray.com since it''s better for including a CMS solution to your own project. But if you just want something ready to use. Look at the PHP solutions. Rails is just too young to have as many ready made solutions. Has nothing to do with easyness or quality. There is just a limit to how much a framework can do in one year. :) On 7/4/06, dakoo <pixelrouge@gmail.com> wrote:> Well i want to make a photography community site on the lines of > www.gfxartist.com , www.terminus1525.ca, www.phirebrush.com > > Where the community votes for every subbmission from a artist and can > comment (like a forum).. > > Now gfxartist has used probably SMARTY,php, and their own CMS. > > terminus used Drupal,Gallery 2.Some one tells me that this combo is > heavy on resources and slows down sites. > > [A] I need AJAX. I can''t believe this wasn''t mentioned... This CMS looks very very very cool. It is also written on a rails stack, so there yah go. Has a few ajaxy options. Still in development, but looks more than suitable for production use. http://www.eribium.org/eribium/ This looks very good. Aparently this was also written by some whiz 16 year old. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.
Hi guys ... Thnx for ur answers & suggestions. Still wondering for the Gallery 2 suggestion. And> . Rails is just too young to have as many ready made > solutions. Has nothing to do with easyness or quality. There is just a > limit to how much a framework can do in one year. :)Do U guys mean that i should prefer to use php and not rail for my app.Wellthe php CMS will require tweaking anyway for AJAX. Also do u mean here that Rail is not easy , fast.If so what r its advantages then... BTW I just came across these template engines<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_engine>for rails(like SMARTY for php) Liquid <http://home.leetsoft.com/liquid> Masterview <http://masterview.org/> I m not adverse to learning ruby / rails. Just that a CMS would make my job a little easy. Also if u see www.gfxartist.com how much time do u suggest it will take for 1 man to complete if done with rails. So now since template engine, ajax and a partial CMS prob have been answered it brings us to the last one Galley2 <http://gallery.menalto.com/>.Can that b used with rails. regards rushi On 7/4/06, dakoo <pixelrouge@gmail.com > wrote:> > Well i want to make a photography community site on the lines of > > www.gfxartist.com , www.terminus1525.ca, www.phirebrush.com > > > > Where the community votes for every subbmission from a artist and can > > comment (like a forum).. > > > > Now gfxartist has used probably SMARTY,php, and their own CMS. > > > > terminus used Drupal,Gallery 2.Some one tells me that this combo is > > heavy on resources and slows down sites. > > > > [A] I need AJAX. So there are not nearly as many ready made solutions to choose from compared to PHP that is 10 years old.> > I m not adverse to learning ruby / rails. But actually the power of rails compared to PHP is that you can have some bare basics in a week or so and then add features later more easily than in PHP. So you can start out with something less and add to it gradually. The reason for why we are recommending PHP for you is that you seem to be looking for something complete that you only need to tweak and customize. And there simply isn''t a solution that fits exactly what you specify here. Yet. -- -------------- Jon Gretar Borgthorsson http://www.jongretar.net/
Very well explained Jon... Though i m still not sure which of the two to go first. I m begining to think of rails. Of the CMS suggested i will try to learn more ...
