Rails - Mar 2006 - Applying a patch?

Is it possible to apply a patch to 1.1 without checking out the trunk, 
etc?

If not any client recommendations for svn?

AFAIK you need to have a copy from SVN to apply patches.
What OS are you on?

You can grab the command line package from here:
http://subversion.tigris.org/project_packages.html

If on Windows, TortoiseSVN works a charm:
http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/

Even if just using TortoiseSVN, I''d recommend getting familiar with the
command line too:
