What is the current status of the salted hash login generator? According to the wiki (http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/show/SaltedHashLoginGenerator) "This Generator is BROKEN. You are going to waste a lot of time trying to install it! Avoid it. Go for the Simpler Login Generator <http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/show/LoginGenerator>. (The problem is probably due to a too high coupling with the Localization Generator that makes very hard to debug and understand where this generator fails)" That''s at the top. The rest of the page is a total mess. I am interested in using the SHLG mostly for the extra password mailing features and so forth, but is it worth it? I found this blog post which is reasonably recent (June 12) and seems to have a good step-by-step: http://www.michaelbuffington.com/archives/2005/06/ive_been_playin.html Thoughts? Thanks, Jeff

That would let me concentrate on just fixing the bugs. I have not upgraded to 0.13.1 yet (or even 0.13), so I assume that I will spend some time working through the problems others have hit. Hi Jeff, I''ve got code from the new RailsAppHosting system I''ve been developing which encrypts passwords, emails and requires a confirmation code on first login, can reset passwords and is able to email forgotten usernames. It''s not packaged as a gem or even all that generic, but if you''d like to use it as a starting point I can tar up the code and user db schema and send that to you. Ben Myles
Ben, I''d be interested in a copy of that as well. I''ve been using ''SimpleLoginGenerator'', and was just ready to add reset password and email notification. Love to take a look at what you''ve done. I''m sure I''ll learn a lot from examining working code. -Larry Kelly On 7/30/05, Ben Myles <ben.myles-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote:> > Hi Jeff, > > I''ve got code from the new RailsAppHosting system I''ve been developing > which encrypts passwords, emails and requires a confirmation code on > first login, can reset passwords and is able to email forgotten > usernames. Hey Ben- I''d love to get a tarball of your user system to check out. I''m working on a project and will be tackling user management this week. I would really appreciate it.
