Hello all, I''ve installed rails and mysql on my laptop and imac running OSX 10.4.2 I was wondering if any mac folks on this list could give me advice on other things I should install. I recently installed RedCloth becuase it seems a lot of apps rely on that. any other suggested gems? Also, I''ve seen a lot of info going around about SVN. I''m sort of new to open source so I never heard of it. I''m having trouble installing it on OSX. If anyone has any links on how to do it I''d appreciate it. Also, am I better off replacing apache with lighthttp as my built in webserver or will that cause more trouble than good with the OSX. - Jim
I like Martin Ott''s packages http://homepage.mac.com/martinott/ for subversion. I also really like TextMate (as do most of the mac heads on this list) for editing rails code. I use it for C++ now too, despite the lack of a function menu or context aware autocomplete. It has a great highlighting engine, and really nice snippet and file template features too. On a general note installing things with Darwin Ports is much easier way to install *nix software on OS X. http://darwinports.opendarwin.org/ Once you get Darwin ports installed you can just "sudo port install subversion" and you should be good to go. Sorry I can''t really help you on the apache vs. lighthttp question, I am currently dev''ing with Webrick On Jul 22, 2005, at 10:22 AM, Jim Jeffers wrote:> Hello all, > > I''ve installed rails and mysql on my laptop and imac running OSX > 10.4.2 > > I was wondering if any mac folks on this list could give me advice > on other things I should install. Go to the site and read the info... will not take you long till your dumping apache that ships with os x... Currently it ships with 1.3.x Depending on your needs, you can pretty much get all you want with darwin ports. If you need help theres a list with tonnes of helpful people! Eoghan

I run lighttpd extensively on my Mac (10.3 but about to update as soon as I find the time), I haven''t had any need to use WEBrick even for development after installing lighttpd. It just rocks. //jarkko -- Jarkko Laine http://jlaine.net http://odesign.fi _______________________________________________ Rails mailing list Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails
