Open Source Evangelists Required Ruby on Rails Developers I have become embroiled in the Ruby on Rails environment, an incredibly exciting environment to be in; however I really am in need of some help. I now have number clients who require commercial Ruby on Rails developers. The most recent project is for a client of mine, based in Leeds they developing a major site, including 11 subsidiary sites + 3 dependent sites on each of the 11, giving a total of 34 sites. All being driven by a sophisticated Content management system. There will be a lot of upfront development, followed by smaller implementations. As a matter of course the client, wants all code to be documented, any undocumented code will be treated as unusable code - you will also be using Rdoc, as a matter of course. My client does have a mature approach to development and home/distance work may be an option as all the tasks will be objectified. Do we all just love it when an idiot like this says to someone that they aren''t qualified for a position? Makes you wonder what possible qualifications they have for their position. Posting employment opportunities properly certainly can''t be on that list. -- John W Higgins wishdev-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org

Is it too soon to make "suicide bomber" / Al-Qaeda jokes? Probably. Nevermind.

Yes John, please continue to tell people offering real paying Rails jobs they are "idiots". That''s really the best way to make sure that more recruiters come to the list asking for Rails developers. Of course, if your intention is to keep Rails underground so that you can continue to feel "l33t" then you''re on the right path. You''ll soon be working in a framework that''s just as popular as APL. Hi Ian, I have some friendly advice for your future postings which should help you (and other recruiters) to meet potential workers. 1. Use Text formatting not HTML for your e-mails. HTML in e-mail is distrusted because of spammers using it to inject viruses and other nasty things. Also, some people are elitist jerks who refuse to use a modern client that can render HTML. 2. Keep your subject short. I would have written, "3 Ruby on Rails Developer Positions" 3. Keep in mind that many people have a "Leeds" in their country, so specify the location more exactly. 4. Use a more succinct e-mail that doesn''t try to "sell" the position too hard. Stick to the facts, get to the gist of what they''ll be doing, and try to include the salary. When I see a posting that doesn''t include the proposed salary I say, "Great, they''ll charge 150/hour and pay me 30/hour." 5. Ignore anyone who insults you or calls you an "idiot". They do not represent the majority of the community on average and usually end up being little people with low self-esteem who need someone to beat up. 6. It looks like English is not your native language, which is fine, but you should have a native speaker proof your e-mail before you send it. The main reason for this is that spammers tend to use poor English so doing the same makes people suspicious. 7. Finally, make sure the contact information is clear, with only one contact person. This makes sure people will respond. Hopefully this helps you do more meaningful postings to the mailing list. Also, don''t get discouraged if people here seem to insult you. Many times the rude ones are just having a bad day and don''t represent the majority of the community.
