hi, i''m trying to set up rails to work with microsoft iis (5.0/5.1, 2000/XP) and i have found several documents online to help with just that. however, i am confused... why one must one install apache in order for rails to work with iis? doesn''t make much sense to me, but then again i am very new to all of this. can someone point me in a direction where i can set up rails for JUST iis? thanks, Dave
I don''t know if that''s supported, but if you''re not needing apache, why not just use WebBrick which ships w/ rails? dave davidson wrote:>hi, > >i''m trying to set up rails to work with microsoft iis (5.0/5.1, 2000/XP) and i >have found several documents online to help with just that. however, i am >confused... why one must one install apache in order for rails to work with >iis? doesn''t make much sense to me, but then again i am very new to all of >this. > >can someone point me in a direction where i can set up rails for JUST iis? > >thanks, >Dave > >_______________________________________________ >Rails mailing list >Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org >http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails > > >
I think it had something to do with the fast cgi gem installer needing apache to be present to run. It doesn''t actually require apache to be running, but it has to be present. You can take it off as soon as you finish installing if you need. I''m running rails under IIS just fine. Hi, It''s to make sure all the fcgi stuff is being installed correctly in ruby (by the rubyforapache installer). Thing is you actually don''t use apache, which is why I found it okay to start with. I would love to hear an alternative route, I just am lacking the time to figure out how to bypass the rubyforapache part and not use the installer.
