The source to the projects is available but who, other than the judges, wants to install each one just to see what it is? As for ours: We were team 81 and while we didn''t finish we wrote the bulk of a password management site with a twist... Everything''s encrypted on the client side. The server has NO identifying information on ANY of the users. Not only that there''s no need for an SSL cert because everything''s already encrypted. No worry about nefarious sysadmins or hacked servers. (side note: veeerrryyy javascript heavy... hardly did any ruby coding) http://railsday.com/svn/railsday81 I''ll be finishing it up as soon as i finish up some pay work... but since it''s an app I really want for myself and it''s soooo cloooose to being done. I''ll grab a domain and throw it up there for all when it is. Now if only i could figure out what went wrong with the ajax. I ended up abandoning it and going back to normal after way to many wasted hours beating my head against it trying to get it to ever call back after submitting my forms. -- -Kate (masukomi-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org)
We created an app which lets you generate forms and then have their contents submitted to your Backpack (on a page of your choosing - each submission is a new note). The generated forms are just HTML, and can be placed on any static HTML page (no server technology needed). We also made a cool AJAX real-time preview for when you''re generating the form. We did finish, but we had to leave out a few features that were originally planned. http://railsday.com/svn/railsday57/ Ben On 6/5/05, kate rhodes <masukomi-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote:> The source to the projects is available but who, other than the > judges, wants to install each one just to see what it is? > > As for ours: > We were team 81 and while we didn''t finish we wrote the bulk of a > password management site with a twist... If you go to http://railsday.com/stats/ (or just guess) you can get links directly to the entry svn - it''s fun trying to figure out what the app does just by looking at the source. http://railsday.glueless.net/svn/railsday27/app/controllers/ has both a fight and ingredient controller - the mind boggles ;) My entry is http://railsday.glueless.net/svn/railsday6 - it''s a mailing list archive app with (primitive) threading, (primitive) rss and (primitive) search. Mine is 82. http://railsday.com/svn/railsday82, demo at http://tat.bleything.net It''s kind of a structured wiki... that''s what I was going for, anyway. You can define a template and then create pages with that template. Too bad the Railsday website is down right now But I checked out the stuff you did, very cool. Also found Tackbord and Tally, those are cool too Rob>We created an app which lets you generate forms and then have their >contents submitted to your Backpack (on a page of your choosing - each >submission is a new note). I almost completed a very small app to manage what people view and read personally on the web on a day to day basis. I didnt get search implemented which was really bad but I will do that and update the design very soon. I''m putting an entry in my blog about rails day (lightlifting.blogspot.com). The real reason that I''m writing is I think I may have found a bug in rails but I wanted to check with you guys before submitting one. In my code I tried to do an acts_as_list now that was working fine for the child but on the parent when i specified has_many :blah, :order =>:timestamp the query still go and try to order the list by position and not timestamp. The table didnt have any position and so the code broke. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Hope everyone did well in rails day. Thanks. -- Carl Woodward cjwoodward-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org

Hi Kate, Apologies, I should have put that on there. My group was 71. The project is currently being hosted on www.rubyupdate.com so if you go to www.rubyupdate.com/user/new you can create an account. The link on the home page (www.rubyupdate.com) has an " on the end so it the url reads www.rubyupdate.com/user/new" which then tries to force you to log in. I hope the judges can see that. The project will move to www.rubygnapsack.com tonight, I was just waiting for the dns to update. And hopefully in the next week or so I will get my designer to do me a new skin for it and I will get the search done next weekend. Hope you like it. Carl. Not just a "gallery" application. So what did I end up with... a basic single user gallery application, tentatively called Sfumato. Somewhat disappointing but my goals were much bigger than my time. Lets just call it a first generation learning experience, and learn I did :-) Its basic features are: - single and bulk image upload. You can upload a tarball of images and it will import those individually into the database. - automatic importing of EXIF tags into the database of the uploaded images. If an EXIF date/time tag is present it will use that datetime as the ''made on'' time in the database. - automatic generation of ''display'', ''thumbnail'', and ''icon'' sized versions of the original image. - paged thumbnail and single image viewing Go check it out, and please let me know what you think. The eventual goal is to have an application that helps artists showcase their work on the web, accentuating each image displayed with custom backgrounds, layouts and color schemes based on the main image currently on the screen. Of course my railsday project has none of those :-). I learned a tremendous amount on RailsDay. And make sure you all go to 43things and mark it as a completed goal :-). http://railsday.com/svn/railsday10 If you do give it a test drive, be warned, the ''public/images/repository'' should probably be skipped. I left some images in there for the judges so there would be data available that matched what was in the database. So remove these images as they won''t match what will be in your database. The svn co may take a while :-). You have been warned. enjoy, -jeremy -- ======================================================================= Jeremy Hinegardner jeremy-eg9WJcVQRd1EMKyauTCisw@public.gmane.org

I''ve already forked off a copy of the Railsday svn tree so the demo site can remain up for public consumption and I will resume development for my own use once I resolve the issues I encountered with RMagick and OS X (which was a major pain in my neck during Railsday since I had to do all of my testing by checking code in, checking it back out on the demo server, then test instead of using localhost). I hope to have a public Tracs set up for Tackboard later this week and i might migrate the app to use PostgreSQL instead of MySQL. -- Michael Schubert <michael-CIUEQDs/xG9fq8cQ1yknNg@public.gmane.org> Maintaining badly written code is like trying to solve a crossword puzzle set by someone who can''t spell -- Jacob Kaplan-Moss
