Announcing SoapBX.com a new Rails App for making presentations
I got an idea less than two weeks ago and now as a testament to the power of Rails I have released the first initial beta version of SoapBx, with less than 20 hours of programming involved so far. SoapBX is an application to create css based presentations and uses Erik Meyer''s cool S5 css and js code: http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/tools/s5/ With SoapBX you can use basic Textile and a simple web app to create presentaions. What are my priorities with this righ now? * Improve the user account management screens (there aren''t any right now) * Create more themes (right now only the standard S5 theme is used) * Allow users to create their own themes * Integrate with Flickr for image management * Add a blog and a forum Please let me know what you think so far. I''m likely to be updating it daily for a while so keep coming back. Regards Pelle -- http://talk.org + Live and direct from Panama http://neuclear.com + The World Wide Web of Assets

Re: Announcing SoapBX.com a new Rails App for making presentations
Damn Pelle, You got me hands down here :-) I got the same idea instantly after I learned about S5 (and Rails, but that was already a bit earlier). This is a great tribute to the efficiency of Rails development. I didn''t get further than to the idea stage when someone already handed me an almost ready system. I already tested your system and it looks very good indeed. Can''t wait for the xmlhttprequest editing of the slides ;-) Excellent! //jarkko On 6.1.2005, at 09:59, Pelle Braendgaard wrote:> I got an idea less than two weeks ago and now as a testament to the > power of Rails I have released the first initial beta version of > SoapBx, with less than 20 hours of programming involved so far. > > SoapBX is an application to create css based presentations and uses > Erik Meyer''s cool S5 css and js code: > http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/tools/s5/ > > With SoapBX you can use basic Textile and a simple web app to create > presentaions. > > What are my priorities with this righ now? > > * Improve the user account management screens (there aren''t any right > now) > * Create more themes (right now only the standard S5 theme is used) > * Allow users to create their own themes > * Integrate with Flickr for image management > * Add a blog and a forum > > Please let me know what you think so far. I saw S5 a while ago and was impressed, this is a magnificent application of it. The only thing I wasn''t sure of was how you can get back to the main page from the end of a presentation. Re: Announcing SoapBX.com a new Rails App for making presentations
Slightly off topic but does anybody know why Opera is the only browser that doesn''t render S5 presentations properly? IE and Firefox seem to handle it ok. I have turned on javascript so that''s not it. A few more projects like this an I will have a case at the office...

Re: Announcing SoapBX.com a new Rails App for making presentations
Hi Nikos, Opera was the company that "invented" the projection media type, which S5 is based on (see http://my.opera.com/community/dev/operashow/documentation/ doc_fileformat.html). Other browsers don''t support that type and therefore S5 uses other means to get the needed functionality in them. In Opera, however, S5 falls back to projection media type. Unfortunately Opera Show (which is used to display projection-type html documents in Opera) doesn''t support all the features of S5. For more information read the S5 introduction at http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/tools/s5/s5-intro.html. Re: Announcing SoapBX.com a new Rails App for making presentations
I probably wont share the code, at least not yet. However I will try to help document Rails with examples from my code, just like David does. If there are any bits of my code that I could see would be of use, I will definitely submit it either as patches to rails or open sourced external libraries. -P On Thu, 06 Jan 2005 08:58:50 -0800, Carl Youngblood <carlwork-0CEYHQKyN7s@public.gmane.org> wrote:> Pelle Braendgaard wrote: > > >I got an idea less than two weeks ago and now as a testament to the > >power of Rails I have released the first initial beta version of > >SoapBx, with less than 20 hours of programming involved so far. > > > >SoapBX is an application to create css based presentations and uses > >Erik Meyer''s cool S5 css and js code: > >http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/tools/s5/ > > > >With SoapBX you can use basic Textile and a simple web app to create > >presentaions. > > > Just out of curiosity, would you be willing to share your source or is > this proprietary? I found it kind of works if you put into full screen mode. I''m not sure why you cant see it in the normal browser window. -P On Thu, 6 Jan 2005 21:58:46 +0200, Nikos Polizotis <npolizotis-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote:> Slightly off topic but does anybody know why > Opera is the only browser that doesn''t render S5 presentations properly? > IE and Firefox seem to handle it ok. > > I have turned on javascript so that''s not it. > > A few more projects like this an I will have a case at the office... > _______________________________________________ > Rails mailing list > Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org > http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails >-- http://talk.org + Live and direct from Panama http://econotrix.com + Rants on the economy and everything http://neuclear.com + The World Wide Web of Assets

The nice thing in S5 is that this feature also works in other browsers. When Opera gets into Opera Show mode it loads the stylesheets defined with media=projection and that happens when you go into fullscreen. -- Cristi BALAN
