I want to choose proper knot for the following formula
formula = y~ s(x1) + s(x2) + s(x3) + s(x4) + s(x5) + s(x6) +s(x7) + s(x8)
gam(fromula,data=dat)
if i run the error is
Error in smooth.construct.tp.smooth.spec(object, dk$data, dk$knots) :
A term has fewer unique covariate combinations than specified maximum
degrees of freedom
how to find k and rectify this error
