I don't know what plot.ca is (it's not in base and you gave no package
citation), but the usual way is to add xaxt = "n" to a plot call.
Assuming plot.ca is an appropriately defined generic, this should
work.
E.g.,
layout(1:2)
plot(1:5)
plot(1:5, xaxt = "n")
