I'm writing to this list rather than the Mac one, b/c I don't know if
this problem is particular to the OS.
I recently moved to 2.10 under Snow Leopard:

I also installed a number of Task Views since the version change.
Now if I issue update.packages() after having updated packages once before, R
doesn't remember, and repeatedly wants to update the following packages
(this is true also if I quit R and restart after the update, or if I reinstall
MASS and then update.packages()):
