Dear R People: Here is something strange. I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 with R 2.9.0. I need to have the rgl package. What are the solutions, please?Sounds as though you don't have the development libraries for X11, or perhaps the rgl configure script isn't finding them. Do you have libx11-dev installed? To compile a package from source that needs to link with the X11 library you need the development headers. They come in another package. From the command line, do: sudo apt-get install libx11-dev and that should pull them from the Ubuntu repository. You'll need the root password for this. It's possible you may need some other development headers once you get past the X11 problem! Barry

sudo apt-get install r-cran-rgl
to install the pre-build binary. If you must or want to build it yourself,
use the packaging system to get the build-dependencies installed:

That means you are using an R binary capable of _running_ under X11. This
says nothing about compiling.
