If want you want to do is to delete the diagonal values in your
matrix, here is one way of doing it assuming that your matrix is 'x':
# ignore the diagonal value in each column
z <- lapply(1:ncol(x), function(a) x[-a, a])
# put back into a matrix
z <- do.call('cbind', z)
