I would recommend R for Mac OS X Aqua GUI written by:

Stefano M. Iacus
That you can download directly from cran. It has an editor that
recognizes and highlights commands. Package manager and installer,
help viewer and search box, and lots of menu drop downs for opening
files, changing directories, etc.
