R help - Nov 2006 - Problems with "MASS"

Good day everyone,

I am trying to install the 'MASS' package in my session 
and this is all I get:
> library("MASS")
Error in `parent.env<-`(`*tmp*`, value = NULL) : 
        use of NULL environment is defunct
Error: package/namespace load failed for 'MASS'
> 

I am using R version 2.4.0 (2006-10-03) in a
LINUX machine running GNU/Linux 2.6.8.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem and
found a solution?
