I am using the methods package in version 1.5.0 of R. I would like to write a function that can be called by the methods of a class I defined, but that cannot be called by external functions or by methods of other classes. This function has arguments that are neither slots nor objects -- the arguments are numbers to be supplied by the calling methods. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to do this, or on how to do the equivalent using a more object-oriented approach. I would also like to know if the old-style classes might be better for this. David Bickel http://www.mcg.edu/research/biostat/bickel.html David R.
