Runs fine on both Solaris and Linux here, with no noticeable memory
growth.
Do you have the current nlme, built for that version of R? When I've
seen things like that, it has been due to version mis-matches.
Incidentally, the message means 8*151Mb, so I suspect your VM was
really not large enough, and memory allocated by Calloc is not
(and never has been) part of the `automatic memory allocation', i.e.
the cons cells and vector heap.
