Folks, Some time ago, I asked about the success story of compiling R on Linux/Alpha with Compaq''s ccc/fort. Recently, I grabed R-1.2.1 from CRAN, and tried to compile it. I got a loadable R.bin, but `make test'' reported several errors. All of them seem to be a floating point number issue, such as: (1) In some cases, Alpha returns `-0.0'' instead of `+0.0''. (2) pgamma(Inf,1,xMax) is not evaluated as 1, but 0.6321206 (xMax is the machine maximum float in math.h.) I tested several compile options of fort, but the situation does not change. I have not yet looked into source files. Except these points, R compiled by Compaq''s compiler kit for Linux/Alpha seems to run properly on the Linux/Alpha platform. Configure.in should be rewritten, though. # To be exact, I did the compilation on FreeBSD/Alpha with Linux emulator. just a junk tip.
