R help - Jan 2000 - windows() graphics driver on NT4.0

Dear R community,

I have spent a lot of time with the windows() driver in R 90.0 on NT4.0.  There
are a few odd behaviors I can't figure out, and wonder if they are bugs, or
"features" that I can't find documented:

1. I am mostly doing scatterplots.  If I resize the R window, or resize the
graphics window except with the resize button, the printed image shows 1-pixel
sized dots instead of circles.  I tried using cex= par() variable to increase
the symbol size, but it also increased the axis ticks, axis tick labels, and
axis labels as well.  Setting cex.lab= and cex.axis= explicitly didn't help.

2. If I have 12 scatterplots on a page, arranged in 4-by-3 matrix to fill an
8.5"x11" area, then if I increase the graphics window size using the
resize
button and print the plots, the margins are changed to make the 12 plots
take up a space on the page that is roughly square.

These problems make it impossible to get decent printouts of my plots using
the windows() driver--I finally gave up and resorted to using the postscript()
driver and printing the file using ghostview.  (My printer is an HP OfficeJet
which I think is comparable to a HP BubbleJet printer--it's not PostScript.)

Any pointers or feedback is appreciated.  I checked the R bug archives but
found nothing about problems with windows().

That is not the current version. Graphics sizes in R were altered quite
considerably in 0.90.0 (not 90.0!) and modified again in 0.90.1. Please
upgrade and try again.

Similar things have been reported for other devices: I think this is not
actually to do with windows() except possibly that on some machines Windows
was lying about the screen and font dimensions.

If the problem persists, we need a reproducible example as a bug report,
please.
