XP Pro / Redhat / Samba Printer Suggestions
I am looking at buying a new home office printer and wondered what you all
might suggest.
My current printer is a very inexpensive Canon BubbleJet, and I find it
clogs frequently, has very small ink tanks, and the Maintenance functions
from my XP clients does not work with samba, requiring I switch the printer
cable to an XP machine for maintenance.
My config is this:
- XP Professional workstations (printing via samba)
- RedHat 8 Workstatio...

windows() graphics driver on NT4.0
...page that is roughly square.
These problems make it impossible to get decent printouts of my plots using
the windows() driver--I finally gave up and resorted to using the postscript()
driver and printing the file using ghostview. (My printer is an HP OfficeJet
which I think is comparable to a HP BubbleJet printer--it's not PostScript.)
Any pointers or feedback is appreciated. I checked the R bug archives but
found nothing about problems with windows().

I had no clue where this file was being written,
or why it failed.
I discovered this curious fact:
\\\\datium\\lp - fails
\\\\datium\\minolta - succeeds
\\\\datium\\canon - succeeds
where lp and minolta are synonyms in /etc/printcap for the local
laser printer and canon is a remote bubblejet on another Linux box.
My smb.conf has these relevant parts:
