R help - Nov 1999 - working with binary numbers in R

Hi,

as part of a problem I'd have to do some simple
arithmetics on binary numbers, i.e. shifting to the
left and shifting to the right.

What is the "fastest way" to have R do that?

binary integers?

Write some simple C code and interface it, I would say. That way you
could define, say, %>% and %<% as shift operators on integer vectors.
