At http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/R/win32/ I have made available ports to Guido Masarotto's rw0630 version of a large number of packages, basically all those on CRAN except purely data collections. Please read the instructions in the README file. Also there is a set of dlls in new/iodlls.zip that enable most (but not yet all) of these to work with the rw63-io version, and new/bdr0631.zip, a port of Friday's R-release with some extra features (notably sending help pages to a browser) which all needs the iodlls. I have tested these under Win95 and NT4.0. We don't have a Win98 machine, but Guido does and reports no problems with my earlier files (now removed). Please do unpack with unzip or a recent WinZip. I confirm that both R.exe and Rgui.exe will not run from a NT4 commands window (nor from Cygwin bash on any system). Make a shortcut and run from that. Unfortunately rterm will not either, so until that is fixed, `batch' mode only works on Win9x. An update of making packages on win32 will appear shortly. Meanwhile the latest R complements to V&R (http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/MASS2/compl.shtml) contain more information on using Windows versions, even on installing and making packages. Finally: from the README: Very little testing has been done: please report problems but do not expect quick repairs. All I have done is tested that the libraries load and run one or two examples, except for my own libraries where I have run all the V&R scripts. -- Brian D.
