R help - Nov 1998 - make error of R-0.63

Dear all,

Compiling R-0.63 on my Alpha machine immediately encounters the
following message.  Your help is appreciated.

Make: Don't know how to make ./src/*/*.[chfy].  Stop.

You may have to use GNU make.
