I tried to run the same dataset with R-1.2.3 on Linux, compiled from the source tarball. After 7 hours, it was still grinding away and had not crashed. I had to kill it. "gtop" was showing it with a real size around 160 MB, same as the peak on the Windows 2000 environment. This is on the same hardware as the Windows run; my machine is dual-booted Windows 2000 and Red Hat Linux 7.1. If I get ambitious, I'll see if I can make it fail with a smaller dataset and run on Linux with a debug-compiled R binary. -- M. [Rd] PR #927 -- R crash on huge CSV file (PR#927)
This came in as a new report because of the space between PR and # Resending it to get it filed correctly. (BTW: a growth factor of 3-4 is not unexpectable on CSV files since internal storage of numeric values is in 8-byte doubles.) -p znmeb@aracnet.com writes:> I tried to run the same dataset with R-1.2.3 on Linux, compiled from the > source tarball.
