[Nut-upsuser] Powerware 9120 serial connection via USB/serial dongle
I decided to try this to see if it worked better since Powerware decided to build in some oddball USB protocol instead of using a HID UPS profile, but it doesn't seem to work. The USB/serial dongle is recognized by Linux and added as /dev/ttyUSB0, owned by group "dialout", so I had to add the nut user to the dialout group. In the compatibility list, the proper driver for the Powerware is supposedly upscode2, but it doesn't seem to work: $ sudo upsdrvctl start Network UPS Tools - UPS driver controller 2.0.3 Network UPS Tools - UPScode II UPS driver 0.84 (2.0.3) Copyright (C) 2001-2002 H??vard Lygre, <hklygre@online.no> Copyright (C) 2004 Niels Baggesen <niels@baggesen.net> Warning: This is an experimental driver. Some features may not function correctly. Bad response to UPTP "": Bad response to UPTP "": Bad response to UPSN 0: Missing UPCL after UPCL Communications with UPS lost: Empty string from UPS for UPDS! I thought the USB/serial dongle or serial port might be bad, so I dual booted into Windows and ran Powerware's Lanware 5.x software and it found the UPS properly on COM3. Any other suggestions? :-P ken __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

[Nut-upsuser] Powerware 9120 serial connection via USB/serial dongle
Hi Ken. The 9120 is talking bcmxcp. So you should run the bcmxcp driver. If you have a usb connector on the ups, try the bcmxcp_usb driver. One problem with the bcmxcp_usb driver is that in the current state it does not set the ups to 'request only mode', but the serial bcmxcp driver does it. Regards Kjell ----: At the moment out of computer due to a faulty mainboard:---- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ken Yee" <kenkyee@yahoo.com> To: <nut-upsuser@lists.alioth.debian.org> Sent: Saturday, April 08, 2006 3:56 PM Subject: [Nut-upsuser] Powerware 9120 serial connection via USB/serial dongle> I decided to try this to see if it worked better since > Powerware decided to build in some oddball USB > protocol instead of using a HID UPS profile, but it > doesn't seem to work. [Nut-upsuser] Powerware 9120 serial connection via USB/serial dongle

I was confused by the compatibility page that lists both a powerware 9120 and PW9120. The 9120 uses the upscode2 driver and the PW9120 uses the bcmxcp driver. Why is "request only mode" missing from the bcmxcp_usb driver? And what does it do? No luck finding this info via Google or the docs.. Thanks again, Kjell :-) ken __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
