[Icecast] I can listen to a stream locally but not from anywhere else.
Also don't forget that the full version of WinAmp is required to play oggs. The lite version doesn't support it. iTunes can play local .ogg files but not streams if you download the ogg components from qtcomponents.sf.net. I haven't messed with real player, and I have no intention of doing so. [Icecast] I can listen to a stream locally but not from anywhereelse.
Thanks all for the prompt replies. It turned out to be a client issues all the way around. The winamp versions I tried as well as my friends all were the lite version. I was not aware that iTunes could play local oggs but not streams but apparently that's exactly the case (and possibly a similar issue with real since the only place real would play it was locally on the FC3 box). I installed the full winamp version and all is well at least for my windows machines. -----Original Message----- From: icecast-bounces@xiph.org [mailto:icecast-bounces@xiph.org]On Behalf Of Joel Ebel Sent: 01/31/2005 12:23 PM To: icecast Subject: Re: [Icecast] I can listen to a stream locally but not from anywhereelse. Yep. Listening to an ogg icecast stream on a mac seems to be in a sad state. qtcomponents just doesn't work for streams. It would be great if it did. That would make everyone happy I'm sure. VLC will play ogg streams, but the audio quality I've found to be horrible. It gets clicks and pops, It seems to play back the audio at a different speed, changing the pitch. And then it tries to resample or something to correct it. Anyway, it's unacceptable. Audion seems to work pretty well, but it's an abandoned project. Whamb is in similar shoes. While they don't admit to being abandoned, the last release was years ago. And MacAmp Lite also admits to being abandoned. Nothing is ideal. Joel Brian Beck wrote:> Thanks all for the prompt replies.
