And then he pasted a patch for the qtcomponents project.
But the thing is, no binary available…
Could someone complie a new binary with this patch, so we could
actually test it?

I can listen to a stream locally but not from anywhere else.
Also don't forget that the full version of WinAmp is required to play
oggs. The lite version doesn't support it. iTunes can play local .ogg
files but not streams if you download the ogg components from
qtcomponents.sf.net. I haven't messed with real player, and I have no
intention of doing so.

What is the future of flac as a container? Ideally, should I be
heading toward the generalized ogg component or would the flac
component be more appropriate?

Macintosh Speex player
...es on macintosh,
(Linux, & Windows is fine!) Does anyone know of how to get speex to
play in a graphical program for macintosh?
It would be really cool to say that speex is an open source,
cross-platform music format, that can be played on all OS's!
Has anyone had any luck with http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net/?? It
seems there is code there for speex (which the cvs dates back two years
ago) but I don't know how to compile / install this.

iTunes for Windows - Ogg Vorbis support
I absolutly love the program, have been waiting for it for a long time.
But, the Ogg Vorbis support is not good.
There is this project: http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net/
-It's very very slow.
-Not perfect vorbiscomment support (no support for chars like øæåö etc.)

(no subject)
Hi guys. I downloaded the xiph-qt-win32-0.1.5.zip file from your website. I unzipped and placed the .qtx file in C:\Program Files\Quicktime\QTCompenents. It doesn't install anything. There's no .exe file for it, and even if there shouldn't be, iTunes won't play .FLAC files or even .ogg files. Am I missing something here? I can't see an installation process. Is it possible to

Quicktime components and FLAC
...cd's, blah, blah, blah) is now mostly

So, I have a problem. Or, if you want to look at it another way, I have
an itch. An itch that I intend to scratch.
Looking around, I have seen that a similar itch was scratched
(http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net/) but this project seems to be
dead. Does anyone here know what is/has happen(ing|ed) (with|to) it?
If I set about writing the quicktime component to play FLAC (and
OGG/SPEEX) is anyone here interested in merging it into the mainstream?
Does anyone here know anything that I sh...

Ogg Vorbis QuickTime Component
Hi all,
I don't know if this is the place to ask about this, but I'm going to
try anyway. There is an ogg-vorbis plugin for iTunes on Mac OS X that
is downloadable from
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14259
or
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/mac/13012&mode=feedback
Unfortunately, this plug-in (a Quicktime component) crashes iTunes for

Quicktime + FLAC?
If i could find some good documentation on quicktime, i'd probably give it a
shot... since i already have most of the infrastructure already for
directshow.
I had a look a few times for detailed info on quicktime, and it all looked
pretty painful.
Not to mention all the base media handler code provided for the sdk, says
not suitable for bitrates greater than like 32kpbs which is useless

Speex in QuickTime
Hi everybody,
I've just finished my Speex Codec component for QuickTime. This makes it
possible play and create .mov files containg an audiotrack encoded with
Speex. My plan is to make the component open source and to put it on the
qtcomponent project page on SourceForge. Additional QT components that
would be nice is:
For streaming:
- Packetizer
- Reassembler
For importing/exporting Speex files:
- Exporter
- Importer
So anyone who wants to help is welcome..
The narrowband and wideband components (for windows) can be downloaded

Have you tried the plugins at http://qtcomponents.sf.net/ ? They work
for me (with vorbis, I've not tried speex) with iTunes on MacOS X. The
'load everything into memory' hack is annoying, but better than nothing.

[Flac-users] Quicktime plug-in?
Is there any quicktime plug-in being developed for flac, especially on a Mac? I've searched, but haven't been able to locate one. Also, are the mailing list archives searchable? If they are, how??
Thanks,
TJ

try this site first:
http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net/
I don't think they have flac yet, but they were the ones working on
vorbis for quicktime (and thus iTunes)... and someone started a speex
project there too. If someone would volunteer to add a flac component,
I'm sure it would happen. Check their user support foru...

flac files playable in iTunes 5.0.1 ?
Hi,
Is the recent version 0.1.5 (08.05.2006) of XiphQT compatible with
iTunes 5.0.1 and Mac OSX 10.4? I am trying to get flac files to play
in my iTunes and hope I don't have to upgrade iTunes and get all the
junk that comes with it. i already have ogg support, so this is an
incremental improvement.

iTunes ability, or rather willingness, to play FLAC files is another
question. In practice, the recent versions of iTunes "secretly"
support Oggs - they have '.ogg' extension and 'OggS' magic-file-id
(which qtcomponents.sf.net and now XiphQT have used for years)
hardcoded and if you happen to have the necessary components (which
Apple does not provide) to import and decode Oggs then iTunes is able
to use them. Unfortunately, iTunes does not seem to have anything
hardcoded about FLAC file format or extensions,...
