dovecot - Feb 2007 - help needed - dovecot-ldap authentication

I am trying to set a up mail server on a ubuntu edgy machine. I followed the
howto at http://wanderingbarque.com/howtos/mailserver/mailserver.html .
I am able to configure everything except dovecot-ldap authentication :(.
After struggling with it for a week I decided to seek help.

The current version of dovecot is v1.0 RC21 and the version used for the
howto is  v0.99.10.9. I installed & tried to configure both versions but
none of them was able to authenticate a user from ldap. I noted  some
differences in syntax of the dovecot.conf files of  both the versions. It
seems that the ldap documentation at dovecot site is from the old version of
dovecot ( I might be wrong on this!). So if anyone can tell me how to
configure the current version of dovecot with openldap?

Maybe you should start by posting the results of dovecot -n and the
contents of your ldap authentication file.

And maybe you should give us more information about what your problems
are.
