You need to change mysql to just sql, ie:
userdb sql {
args = /usr/local/etc/dovecot/dovecot-mysql.conf
}
passdb sql {
args = /usr/local/etc/dovecot/dovecot-mysql.conf
}
I believe that this will fix your issue.
