So if you never saw me making a complete fool of myself live, now's your chance to see it second hand :-) :-). New User Issues
I just found RSpec and was trying to do the example on the main page for RSpec (the bowling example). I''m using Ubuntu and did the normal "sudo gem install rspec" and then tried to create the bowling_spec.rb file. When I ran spec bowling_spec.rb, I was missing the cucumber gem, installed that, reran and was missing the hoe gem, installed that, reran and it gave me the a...

Problems browsing from W98 on campus network with samba domain master
On my campus network, there's one wins server that can see every machine on every subnet. I want to provide access to all these computers to the W98 boxes in my workgroup. So here's what I did: I created my own workgroup, set myself to be the local browse master and domain master. So now everything works properly on my linux box (rh 6.0, samba 2.0.5a) and the W98 boxes in my workgroup

*what* to test?
So I dig rspec and BDD, of course. I thought that Dave''s Google Video was a great intro () -- even if it was a bit heavy on theory and a bit loose on the nuts and bolts. But I don''t see anyone sufficiently answering the big question: What do you test? How do you define higher level and lower level behaviors that should have tests written for them?

possible security bug with SWAT logins
I have stumbled across something that I am not sure if it is a bug or feature. I have three AIX servers, one running samba 2.2.2 and two running samba 2.2.5. My browser from my desktop, Windows NT 4.0 SP6, is Netscape 4.76. If I point my browser to each server, one at a time, and log into SWAT, once I have logged in to each server, the first time, I can point my browser back to any of the three

Bug#631102: xen: Xen guests on Squeeze lose networking randomly
Package: xen-hypervisor-4.0-amd64 Version: 4.0.1-2 Severity: grave File: xen Justification: renders package unusable Debian Squeeze Dom0, up to date. Networking is handled by OS scripts, such that br0 and br1 are bridge interfaces. Without warning, the DomU (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS) loses inbound connectivity. It tends to happen after several hours. It doesn't seem to be affected by throughput

OT: Ecommerce hosting
Would appreciate some suggestions for ecommerce hosting. Been using, cough, cough, godaddy, for about 5 or 6 yrs but in the last year or so, they really suck. Did the hosting myself for a while prior to going with godaddy but I don't have time to babysit. Seems godaddy would rather spend millions advertising during the Super Bowl than put that money to good use. TIA!!

Appropriate measure of correlation with 'zero-inflated' data?
I have reached the correlation section in a course that I teach and I hit upon the idea of using data from the weekly Bowl Championship Series (BCS) rankings to illustrate different techniques for assessing correlation. For those not familiar with college football in the United States (where "football" refers to American football, not what is called soccer here and football in most

Darwine or Wine? New to Mac, Install/Uninstall/File issues.
I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard. I recently installed Darwine, and then installed a new program, Bowl Bound College Football. Even installed the patch afterwards. So far, so good. Now my problem, is that this program creates an export file to send to a league commissioner, that they can then import. I can't find the file path in Finder, or any of the files for the

New Terminology
There has been a low continuing level of confusion over the terms "Source NAT" (SNAT) and "Static NAT". To avoid future confusion, all instances of "Static NAT" have been replaced with "One-to-one NAT" on the web site and in the CVS configuration files (Shorewall/ project). The documentation in 1.4.9 will also contain this change. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \

Data source for American college football rankings?
An interesting, and topical, example of multivariate data for classroom illustrations are the American college football rankings. Starting at the end of October (or "week 8", the 8th week of the football season) a set of rankings called the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) will be published. This is a composite ranking based on two subjective polls, the Harris and USA Today polls, and a
